Leavenworth, Kan., police are investigating after an Army officer died Thursday from injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle collision on his way to work.

Capt. Alex W. Northrup, 29, died three days after he was injured in the crash. Northrup was riding his motorcycle to work Monday morning on Kansas State Route 5 near Leavenworth when a car struck him, authorities said.

“There are no words that can properly express how saddened I am at losing one of our own,” said Lt. Gen. Milford H. Beagle commanding general of Fort Leavenworth, in a news release. “My deepest condolences are with CPT Northrup’s family and friends.”

Northrup was the commander of Company B in the United States Disciplinary Barracks Battalion at Fort Leavenworth. A native of Wichita, he was commissioned as an Army officer through ROTC when he graduated from Kansas State University in 2016.
