Fort Hood is taking a snow day, so to speak.

Because of sub-freezing temperatures and expected icy conditions, the Fort Hood senior commander on Tuesday authorized the closure of Fort Hood until further notice.

“Until further notice” was extended through Wednesday.

Closures included the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, except for the emergency room, and all commissaries and exchange facilities.

Temperatures on Tuesday morning were around 27 degrees, with 11 mph winds and a wind chill making it feel like 17. Freezing rain and sleet were on the way.

Temperatures below freezing, freezing rain and ice were in the forecast for Wednesday.
