(Tribune News Service) — Salute from the Shore, the annual Fourth of July sky parade over South Carolina's beaches, is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

Beachgoers wearing red, white and blue typically cheer and wave American flags for the tribute to veterans and those currently serving in the United States military.

The flyover will include two F-16s from Shaw Air Force Base and a C-17 from Joint Base Charleston starting in Cherry Grove and ending in Beaufort County.

This year, civilian-owned vintage aircraft including a Nanchag CJ-6s and a Focke Wulf FWP-149, will fly an earlier route that covers only part of the state's coastline. That group of planes expects to leave Murrell's Inlet at 11 a.m. and end at Folly Beach by noon.

The F-16s are expected to pass by the Hilton Head and Bluffton areas at 1:31 p.m. and Beaufort 1:35 p.m. with the C-17 following at 1:48 p.m. and 1:54 p.m., respectively.

The times are approximate. Weather or mechanical issues may delay or cause the flyover to be canceled.

The National Weather Service forecast for Beaufort County includes a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. Otherwise mostly sunny with a high near 93 and heat index values as high as 106.

Salute from the Shore is a nonprofit group that seeks to recognize and honor the sacrifices of those in the military each Fourth of July. This is the 14th annual event.
