(Tribune News Service) — An airman at McConnell Air Force Base, Kan., was taken to a hospital for evaluation after lightning struck near him on Wednesday, according to a news release sent from the base.

A call about a person being struck by lightning came in around 3 p.m, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said.

The news release said the airman was found injured after a lightning bolt struck near him on the base flight line.
