WIESBADEN, Germany — University of Maryland University College Europe is offering $500 scholarships for military family members this summer.

The scholarships, which can be used in conjunction with federal grants and loans, are open to military dependents with a valid military ID card, who are eligible to apply to UMUC and have a high school degree or equivalent.

Although the scholarships have been offered for spouses of active-duty troops in the past, this is the first year the scholarships have been extended to children of military parents, according to UMUC Europe spokeswoman Cristina Willard.

Current and new students can use the scholarship money toward tuition and textbook fees for summer classes. Registration is under way through June 5 for on-site courses and until June 12 for online classes. On-site courses begin June 6 and online classes June 13.

The scholarship application can be found at: www.ed.umuc.edu/militaryfamily. Applicants can e-mail it to: mss@europe.umuc.edu or give it to a local UMUC representative.
