KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — Air Force officials are seeking the public’s help in locating a suspect after a teenage dependent reported an unknown man came to the family’s door on Vogelweh on Saturday and made suspicious statements.

The incident came three days after an 11-year-old boy reported someone tried to grab him. Base residents and officials in the Kaiserslautern Military Community have been on heightened alert following two reports of child molestation and another report of attempted child abduction on bases in Kaiserslautern since January. Those three instances involved girls between 5 and 7, officials have said.

The senior community law enforcement officer for the Kaiserslautern Military Community said Sunday authorities don’t believe Saturday’s incident is related, because the dependent was older and the description of the suspect was different.

“At this point, we don’t see that link,” said Lt. Col. Eric Springer, who is also the 569th U.S. Forces Police Squadron commander.

In the Saturday incident, a 17-year-old girl living in Vogelweh housing reported that an unknown man came to her door between 4 and 4:30 p.m. and told her that he was sent by her father to check on her well being, according to Springer and information posted on Ramstein’s LiveWire website.

The girl did not open the door and spoke to the man through an intercom system, Springer said. “She told him that she was not home alone,” Springer said. “She said her family was there, and he left.”

The man was not sent by the girl’s father and neither the girl nor the family knew him, Springer said. The girl reported the incident to her father and the family reported it to law enforcement.

The teenager observed the man from the second floor of her house departing on foot, Springer said, and provided the following description: A heavy-set white male with short red hair, a bald spot and facial hair, wearing an Army combat uniform with a white shirt and white running shoes, in his late 30s to early 40s, about 5-feet 10-inches to 6-feet tall.

After the incident was reported Saturday, people exiting the base by vehicle were stopped and checked, but the suspect was not found, Springer said.

“Our top priority is protecting the public — our families and our children,” Springer said. “We need the public’s help to make this happen. We want to identify who this person is, find out what their intentions were on that day.”
