Sean MoyeVolleyball

Osan American, South Korea

Last week: With 51 spike kills, 17 service aces, 41 defensive digs and seven stuff blocks, played a central part in lifting the Cougars to two victories in three matches and a 9-2 record in Korean-American Interscholastic Activities Conference play, their best showing to this point of a season in school history.

Moye, a senior, helped the Cougars beat Korea International 25-19, 25-19, 25-13 on Oct. 8. Two days later, Osan beat Yongsan International-Seoul 25-21, 25-19, 25-19 before falling on Saturday to longtime power Seoul Foreign 11-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-22. The Cougars are in second place.

"Very few kids can hit where they want to," coach Mike Hogen said. "It puts a lot of pressure on defenses. He doesn’t just do what he has done in practice with repetition, but rather thinks about every play."

Kadena, Okinawa

Last week: Remained unbeaten in six singles and doubles matches, helping the Panthers edge a much-improved Kubasaki Dragons squad 4-3 on Thursday at Kubasaki’s five-court complex on Camp Foster.

Mason, a junior, cruised past Kubasaki team captain and senior Cait Frandsen 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1 girls singles tie. Mason then teamed up with senior Ashley Grugin in the No. 1 girls doubles tie and beat Frandsen and her partner, Tammi Ragan, 6-3, 6-3.

Mason, a year-round player who placed third in last November’s Far East Tournament at Kadena Air Base, continues to make strides in adding ingredients to her well-rounded game, coach Robert Bliss said.

"She’s developed more power, consistency and confidence as a player," Bliss said. "She’s great to have as a player."
