BITBURG AIR BASE, Germany – All-European Austin Schmidt ran for 141 yards and four touchdowns Saturday to help the two-time defending European Division II champion Bitburg Barons to a 55-0 victory over the Amsterdam Panthers, coach Mike Laue reported.Schmidt found the end zone on first-half runs which covered three, 33, two and 21 yards to jumpstart the Barons to their 15th consecutive victory. Matt Flood, who averaged 12 yards per carry on four attempts, ran 13 and 29 yards for two Bitburg TDs and returned an Amsterdam pass 49 yards for a third score. All-Europe running back Kyle Edgar, who rushed five times for 69 yards, scored on a 10-yard run for the Barons.Amsterdam, a Dutch club team, had no answer to the Barons’ defense, which sacked Panther quarterbacks five times and recovered a fumble. Edwin Santos, who registered two sacks, came up with the fumble recovery; Schmidt, All-European Darian Billups and Colton Engelmeier each recorded a sack.Next up for Bitburg is a Saturday home game against Division II-North rival AFNORTH.
