Stars and Stripes did not just publish material from staff artists. Throughout the decades, many of the drawings, cartoons and comics came straight from the trenches, jungles and mountain sides of the front lines. The Korean War proved especially fruitful and the Pacific Stars and Stripes editors often published several in a recurring feature called “Cartoon Capers.” In 1955, the editors ran a selection of them, asking for submissions for future pages.
