If you want to walk this weekend, why not head to Jebenhausen, Germany? This is a Stammtisch walk for the Stuttgart German-American Wandering Club. Spot the club’s blue flag in the start hall and go up and introduce yourself to these avid volksmarchers.

Good luck to the Heidelberg International Wandering Club as it goes by train, streetcar and bus to the walk in Freiburg-Kappel on Sunday. We hear that this is a beautiful city.

One of the most popular volksmarch events in Europe is approaching. The medieval German town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber will host its 35th annual weekend of walking through the city and around the neighboring countryside Feb. 23 and 24. There are plenty of quaint little guesthouses in Rothenburg for spending the night, but they will fill quickly as the date approaches, so don’t hesitate to make your reservations. We have made ours at our favorite overnight spot and look forward to a busy weekend of walking.

All three of the major American-based volksmarching clubs will be at this event:

• The Heidelberg International Wandering Club is putting together a very nice weekend trip for this event. After walking in Rothenburg on Saturday, the club plans to walk the permanent trail in Creglingen on Sunday morning. On the way back to Heidelberg, the group will stop and tour the Weikersheim Castle. If you would like to tag along, contact Rob and Cath Floyd at thefloyds@t-online.de. They will answer any questions and give you information on how to pay. The cutoff date for registration was a couple of days ago, but with luck, there might be some slots available.

• The Ramstein Roadrunners also will take a busload to Rothenburg that Saturday. For more info, contact Gene Behrends at parrotdad@hotmail.com.

• Or, go to Rothenburg with the Stuttgart German-American Wandering Club. Contact Dal Pettaway at dalcita@hotmail.com for information.
