We have another weekend coming up with plenty of good walks. Here are a few that caught our eye.

First is the walk in Dielkirchen, Germany, about 20 kilometers (about 12 miles) north of Kaiserslautern. Doors to the sport hall, at Hauptstrasse 48, open both days at 6:30 a.m. This walk is for IVV credit only.

Not too much farther away, in the Baumholder area, is the Heimbach volksmarch. This event starts at the Besenbinderhalle between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday and 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday. This walk, too, is for IVV credit only.

Just a little farther to the north is the walk in Ehlenz, just north of Bitburg. This event should attract folks in the Eifel region.

The volksmarch in See bei Parsberg, 15 kilometers southwest of Hohenfels, should be convenient for walkers in the Hohenfels area. The walk starts at the Spielplatz at Am Bichlberg 1. Doors open both days at 6 a.m. The prize is a garden decoration.

We recently joined eight other members of the Tri-Border Walking Club for a train trip to Wuppertal, Germany. We wanted to check out the city; ride the Schwebebahn, which is the overhead railway; locate the zoo; and find out more about the permanent IVV walk.

We were disappointed to find the Schwebebahn closed for maintenance, so we set out on foot to explore the city. We did not have enough time to walk the permanent trail, but we found the start location and got written directions for this event. We followed the route of the Schwebebahn for several kilometers and can imagine the beautiful views from the cars. Along the way we found an indoor flea market and had a look around.

We eventually went past the zoo and soon found ourselves in the center-city pedestrian shopping zone. After a lunch of Flammkuchen, we made our way back to the train station for the ride home. The brief glimpse of Wuppertal was enough to make us to want to head back someday.
