Just before Memorial Day weekend, Washington D.C. will host the G.I. Film Festival, where more than 50 films celebrating the story of American servicemembers will screen from May 6-12.

This year, most of the festival’s films will screen at the AMC Theater in Shirlington Village in Arlington, Va., minutes outside of Washington D.C.

Films from domestic and international filmmakers alike will be screened at the festival, all with the intention of showing viewers the experiences of those who have served in the military.

The festival is open to both amateur and professional filmmakers, and prizes are given to winners in the feature, documentary, and short film categories.

In addition to the film screenings, the G.I. Film Festival, of which Stars and Stripes is a sponsor, also offers presentations by award-winning actors and directors, panel discussions with soldiers and filmmakers, special exhibitions, Hollywood meet and greets, and an international film night.
