A Fort Carson soldier deployed to Kuwait died in a non-combat incident Friday, the Defense Department said.

Pfc. Monterrious T. Daniel, 19, of Griffin, Ga., was deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, the U.S.-led campaign against the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria, according to the Pentagon. He died at Camp Buehring, a U.S. military base near the Iraq border.

Daniel was an ammunition specialist assigned to the 68th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, part of the 4th Infantry Division’s 43rd Sustainment Brigade. He had been in the Army for 14 months and deployed with his unit to Kuwait in February.

A Fort Carson spokeswoman said in an email that “the incident is still under investigation so I cannot discuss anything else” about Daniel’s death.
