U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden in Germany is one of five military installations to receive the Commander in Chief’s Annual Award for Installation Excellence.

The honor carries a $1 million cash award. Garrison spokeswoman Chrystal Smith said officials were still unsure of what rules applied to spending the money but that the garrison commander intended to seek input about spending it from the community.

The award recognizes outstanding and innovative efforts of the people who operate and maintain U.S. military installations, according to a Defense Department press release. Each installation succeeded in providing excellent working, housing and recreational conditions, it said.

Besides USAG Wiesbaden, the other awarded bases are:

• Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif.

• Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Honolulu.

• Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany.

• Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime, Columbus, Ohio.
