RAF MILDENHALL, England — About 100 airmen from the 56th Rescue Squadron and 748th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron have begun returning to RAF Lakenheath from a three-month deployment to Bagram Airfield.

The airmen were assigned to the 83rd Expeditionary Rescue Squadron and 455th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron in Afghanistan.

About 40 airmen landed at RAF Mildenhall on Wednesday and another approximately 30 landed early Thursday, an official said. The airmen are landing at Mildenhall due to runway work at RAF Lakenheath, where they are stationed.

While deployed, they performed more than 100 medical evacuations, according to a news release.
