Defense Commissary Agency customers who were deployed when the agency allowed customers to redeem gift certificates from a bankrupt company last year have until the end of the month to get redemptions.

DeCA accepted more than 30,000 gift certificates issued by CertifiChecks Inc. worth some $878,000 from March 6 to July 31 last year, according to a DeCA news release. Only customers away from their normal duty stations the entire time of the previous redemption period can get certificates redeemed, and only if a supervisor will verify that absence.

CertifiChecks, of Dayton, Ohio, issued the certificates and ran the program for DeCA and a host of businesses and organizations in the States. The company filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection in April 2009.

Redemption forms are available at DeCA’s website: www.commissaries.com.
