WIESBADEN, Germany — A Bamberg-based soldier was killed Wednesday in Afghanistan’s Logar province, the Department of Defense announced Friday.

Spc. Barun Rai, 24, of Silver Spring, Md., died of injuries sustained in a vehicle rollover, the DOD said in a release. He was assigned to the 54th Engineer Battalion, 18th Engineer Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command.

According to the local ABC News affiliate, Rai came to the U.S. from Nepal, where he dreamed of joining the Army.

The remains of Rai arrived Friday at Dover Air Force Base, Del.

No information was immediately available on memorial service plans.
