MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — Cummings Elementary School is expected to reopen Thursday after being closed two days because of damaged heating coils and burst water pipes, which partially flooded the school over the holiday weekend.

Officials said the problem began Friday, when they lost heat in the gym and cafeteria. Over the next few days, several pipes burst, and 35th Civil Engineer Squadron personnel worked around the clock to repair the damage.

Officials have said it could take weeks to learn the total cost of damage to the facility, computers, copiers, curriculum and lesson materials.

Call the school at DSN 226-2647 for more information.
