MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan – Misawa firefighters demonstrated their skills for the base community Wednesday night, putting out roaring fires in their training area in celebration of National Fire Prevention Week.

With crowds sitting on bleachers behind a row of safety cones, the firefighters raced toward a huge fire engulfing the training aircraft, actually wading into the fire pit to put out the final flames in several sessions.

They’ll also host an open house and parade Saturday.

The parade begins at the high school at 10 a.m., winding through main base housing before arriving in the north side housing area at about 11 a.m.

The open house – featuring fire truck displays, interactive exhibits and station tours – takes place in the fire station from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
