A Misawa-based airman died in an off-base motorcycle accident Tuesday, according to the Air Force.

No other vehicles were involved in the 11:30 p.m. accident that killed Staff Sgt. Nathan J. McArthur, 29, who was assigned to the 35th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, according to the 35th Fighter Wing.

“Misawa Air Base is deeply saddened by the death of one of our own,” Col. Stephen Williams, 35th Fighter Wing commander, said in a statement. “As we look into this tragic accident, we will also focus our efforts on taking care of our airman’s family and friends as we grieve together.”

The cause of the accident is under investigation, the statement said.
