A cemetery for U.S. military veterans on Guam is getting a $3.2-million facelift and expansion, according to Guam Gov. Eddie Calvo.
The Department of Veterans Affairs federal grant will cover the development of about 2,000 new gravesites and maintenance on 2,000 existing headstones at Guam Veterans Cemetery on the territory’s west coast, the governor’s office said in a statement Thursday.
The new sites will include about 900 crypts and 1,100 niches for cremation urns on two acres of land for U.S. servicemembers. Meanwhile, 2,000 headstones will be raised, realigned and cleaned at the existing 13-acre cemetery.
