Gayle Vaughn-Wiles, DODDS-Guam district superintendent, is retiring after a 34-year career in the military school system, Department of Defense Dependent Schools-Pacific said Monday.

Vaughn-Wiles held the superintendent position since 2008. Previously, she was the district superintendent for Okinawa and held various positions at schools in the Pacific and Europe since 1976.

Steven Bloom, deputy director of DODDS-Pacific, will take over the post, the school district said. Bloom has been with defense schools since 1982 and held his current position since 2000.
