Air Force Lt. Gen. Salvatore A. Angelella took command of U.S. Forces Japan and 5th Air Force during a ceremony July 20 at Yokota Air Base, Japan. Angelella replaced Lt. Gen. Burton Field, who had served in both positions since October 2010.
Angelella graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1981 and previously served at Yokota as vice commander of 5th Air Force and deputy commander of 13th Air Force. His most recent assignment was vice director for strategic plans and policy for the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Field will be the next deputy chief of staff for operations, plans and requirements at the Air Force headquarters at the Pentagon.
