FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii — An Army drone operated by the 25th Infantry Division crashed during a training flight Wednesday in the Waianae Mountain Range and started a brush fire, the Army said.
The RQ-7 Shadow Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System crashed in an area adjacent to Schofield Barracks in central Oahu around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to an Army statement.
The Army’s Wildland Fire Department, joined by the Federal Fire and Honolulu Fire departments, responded to the blaze, and as of Wednesday evening were still working to extinguish the fire and assess the area.
The 25th Infantry Division also dispatched aircraft to assess the area and help fight the fire, the Army said.
No personnel were injured, and no other aircraft were in the area at the time of the incident, the Army said.
The cause of the crash had not yet been determined, the Army said.
More information will be released once an official investigation is completed, the Army said.
