The adult sports office at Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan, is launching several new Captain’s Cup tournaments next month, including volleyball, soccer and horseshoes.

Women’s and men’s soccer and volleyball teams will start competing Monday in the tournaments, which are expected to conclude by the end of the month.

Through Yokosuka’s Captain’s Cup events, command-sponsored teams compete in competitions throughout the year. Teams are awarded points for winning tournaments and the command teams with the most points are honored at a year-end banquet.

The 27 yearly tournaments, in about 20 sports, usually attract 10 to 20 teams, according to sports office employees.

The adult sports office also offers 32 intramural events each year, which are not divided into commands.

On Monday, the volleyball tournament is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Thew Gym volleyball court A.

Across from the middle school, the soccer tournament is scheduled to start at Briggs’ Bay field at 5:30 p.m.

The adult sports office will launch a horseshoe tournament, starting April 30.

For information about the events and command teams registered in the tournaments, contact the adult sports office at DSN 241-2955.
