The nineteenth Tour de Tama mountain bike race will be held rain or shine Nov. 4 at the Tama Recreation Area.

The race is on a 3.1-mile loop traversing hilly terrain on a mix of gravel and dirt trails.

The course will open at 7 a.m. for riders to conduct practice runs; the first category of riders is to begin racing at 9 a.m.

First-time racers may enter the Rookie Riders division, in which beginning riders race each other for two laps of the course, about 6.2 miles.

The race’s length varies by entrants’ experience up to the four-lap, 12.4-mile expert-rider course.

Riders will receive Tour de Tama T-shirts and steak lunches and will be entered to win cycling-related prizes in a drawing after the race.

The registration fee is $25.

Riders may register until the day before the race at either the Yokota or Zama outdoor recreation centers.

Racers also can register starting at 8 a.m. on race day.

Yokota riders can save $5 on their registration fee by riding their bikes to the Outdoor Recreation Center when they register, organizers said.

For more information contact the Outdoor Recreation Center at Yokota, DSN 225-4552, or at Camp Zama, DSN 263-4671.
