AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy - Kyle Smigleski rushed for 184 yards and two touchdowns Saturday as the Naples Wildcats improved to 2-0 with a 26-14 victory over host Aviano.

Aviano (0-2) led 8-3 at the half on the strength of Darien Cornett’s 61-yard TD run, but Naples, limited to Hunter Johnson’s 38-yard field goal before intermission, broke Smigelski loose after intermission to take the lead.

The Wildcats had led 4-0 at halftime against Hohenfels in their season opener last week before earning a 39-0 victory.

Richard Burrell also scored for Naples from two yards out.

Johnson added another field goal, this one from 37 yards out, in the second half, but both of his kicks could have gone longer, according to Naples coach Dirk Lambertson.

“He kicked them into the bushes,” Lambertson said. “The bushes are 20 yards behind the end zone. If we get inside the 30, we know we can score.”

Ivo Sabotinov led the Naples defense with 13 tackles.Aviano, which posted its fourth-quarter TD on a Myron McRae-to-Andrew Bert TD pass of 35 yards, got a fumble recovery from Bert and an interception from Corey Webb to top its defensive effort.
