The RAF Croughton Cougars wrapped up the 2007 USAFE Small Units basketball championship quickly Friday at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, throttling the RAF Fairford Falcons 93-52.

Terry Cassidy jump-started the Cougars. He hit his first three three-point attempts and five of seven in the opening 20 minutes as Croughton went up 52-24 at halftime.

Cassidy finished with a game- and tournament-high 33 points to help Croughton improve its record in the five-day, four-team double round-robin to 6-1. Geilenkirchen handed Croughton its only defeat, 55-46, on Wednesday.

All-tournament players Sam Mercedes and Colby Benjamin added 20 and 11 points, respectively, for Croughton. Travis Johnson topped Fairford’s score sheet with 16 points.

Croughton reached the final with a 76-56 romp over Moron in Thursday night’s semifinals. Fairford, which finished round-robin play 2-4, surprised Geilenkirchen (4-2), 67-53, for the other berth.
