MECHANICSVILLE, Pa. — Two-time Far East high school cross country meet champion Andrew Quallio now has another title to add to his glowing resume — All-American.

The Zama American senior placed ninth in Saturday’s USA Track and Field junior Olympic cross-country meet, running a personal-best 16 minutes, 5 seconds in the 3.1-mile run. Quallio took ninth place, just 10 seconds behind champion Blake Cowan.

The top 25 finishers are selected to the All-America team. Quallio just missed the honor last year when he finished 26th in last year’s meet in Kansas.

Quallio and his family were traveling to Japan on Sunday and unavailable for comment.

Last month Quallio won his second straight Far East title at Misawa Air Base’s Gosser Memorial Golf Course, and in October broke the Tama Hills Recreation Center’s 22-year 2.9-mile course mark.
