2018 season record — 4-4 overall. Lost Division II championship game 24-20 to Osan on Nov. 10.
Head coach — Scott Bolin, fifth season (eighth year with program), 7-23 overall.
Returning players — 11.
Returning starters — 9.
Key performers — Luke Singer, Sr., WR-S; Josh Reilly, Jr., RB-LB; Keshawn McNeill, So., WR-SS; Angel Villalobos, Jr., C; Michael Steger, Jr., DE; Chandler Platt, Sr., WR-FS; Tim Matelski, Sr., QB-FS (transferred from Radford HS, Hawaii).
Strengths — Defense should be the team’s backbone; most returners played defense in 2018.
Drawbacks — Loss of depth and experience on offense.
Overview — Reloading-contending. After having gone 6-33 the previous five seasons, the Trojans at long last enjoyed an unbeaten D-II regular season and got back to the D-II final for the first time in six years. Bolin says he’s hoping that trend will continue. Early schedule may be tough. Championship rematch third week of the season.
Also — Four of the Trojans are sons of commanding officers: Matelski’s father, Army Col. Thomas Matelski, is the U.S. Army Garrison Zama commander; Reilly’s father, Marine Corps Col. Michael D. Reilly, is Camp Fuji’s commanding officer; and senior Solace Mack and freshman Bryce Mack are the sons of Naval Air Facility Atsugi commanding officer Capt. Lloyd B. “Chilly” Mack.
