Matthew C. Perry Samurai
2018 season record — 1-4 overall.
Head coach — Frank Macias, sixth season.
Returning players — 15.
Returning starters — 12.
Key performers — Marshall China, Sr., RB-LB; Vladimir Carabello, Sr., WB-DB (transferred from Naples HS); Dominic Ziegler, Jr. (transferred from San Clemente HS, Calif.); Matthew Torrecillas, Sr.; Joel Pacleb, Jr., QB; Hunter Staley, Jr., OL-DL; Robert Rogers, Jr., TE-DE; Nehemiya Matthews, Sr., C-DL; Gabriel Ratcliffe, Sr., OL-DL; Marcus Irons, Jr., RB-DB.
Strengths — Veterans with experience, battled tested players who saw plenty of playing time a season ago. More size; average poundage in the line increased by 50 over the course of one season.
Drawbacks — Not much depth; a few injuries away from having issues at certain positions.
Overview — Rebuilding-reloading. Still some growth to do if they’re to get back to where they were a couple of seasons ago when the Samurai were contending for Far East Division II titles.
