Guam Panthers

2018 season record — 6-5 overall. Finished third in IIAAG regular season. Beat Okkodo 41-6 in IIAAG quarterfinal game Oct. 12; lost 27-6 to George Washington on Oct. 20 in IIAAG semifinal; lost 31-12 to John F. Kennedy on Oct. 26 in IIAAG third-place game.
Head coach — Jacob Dowdell, eighth season, 40-31, two IFL regular-season titles, one overall island championship.
Returning players — 4.
Returning starters — 4.
Key performers — Travon Jacobs, Jr., QB; Julius Gaduang, Sr., RB; Matua Whalen, Jr., OL-DL; Avery Gamboa, Jr., OL-DL; Jalen Thach, Jr., WR-CB; Ruben Ramirez, Sr., WR; Ali Shimasaki, Sr., PK.
Strengths — Solid at the skills positions, in particular on special teams with Shimasaki. Excellent experience in the backfield; Jacobs in his third season as starter. As big a line as the Panthers have had since winning the island title in 2010.
Drawbacks — The line is extremely young.
Overview — Rebuilding. Plenty of talent to pile up yards and points, but the learning curve for the line is going to be steep. And facing perennial league champion Father Duenas and its biggest foil, George Washington, in the second and third weeks of the season – on the road – will be a major task.
