AGANA HEIGHTS, Guam – Quarterbacks Kaimana Bamba and T.J. Aguon put the ball in the air plenty of times on Saturday, 24 to be exact. Unfortunately, too many ended up in the hands of the other team.

Bamba and Aguon combined to throw five interceptions and Guam High saw a 7-0 halftime lead evaporate in the final two quarters as Okkodo (2-1) came back to beat the Panthers 14-7.

“Worst night for our young quarterbacks,” Panthers coach Jacob Dowdell said. “I told them, you throw five interceptions, you’re not going to win. We’re still trying to get them to understand the game, understand the flow of the game.”

Bamba put the Panthers (0-4) ahead 7-0 on a first-quarter quarterback sneak. The lead held up through halftime, but Guam could not muster any more scoring after that. Bamba finished 8-for-16 for 58 yards and Aguon was 4-for-8 for 37.

Next for the Panthers is their homecoming game on Friday … against league-leading George Washington, 3-0 on the season.

“Just like after our last game, we’re going to take the things we did right and move on to the next one. The defense is starting to catch on,” Dowdell said, adding of facing the Geckos on Friday: “We’re going to batten down the hatches on them.”
