CAMP WALKER, South Korea – It seems to be the narrative every season in Daegu football country: The Warriors start each campaign with good front-line starters, but are always an injury or two away from being in trouble.

Coach Ken Walter said he tried to address that concern during Friday’s 33-0 home win over Osan, the Warriors’ second victory over the Cougars this season. While starters played the first half, Walter played mostly subs in the second.

“That was the game plan, Walter said, adding that he has to narrow down his roster to 20 players, in case defending champon Daegu wins DODDS Korea Division II and qualifies to play in the Far East D-II title game Nov. 7 at the site of the Japan D-II champion.

“We needed game film on all our guys,” Walter said. “We’re trying to get away from ironmanning, which is always my goal.”

In the first half, DeAndre Rosalie carried five times for 106 yards, including an 11-yard TD run. DeMarco Andrews added 103 yards, including an 88-yard scoring run, on four tries.

Tyler Pak ran 9 yards for a score and threw a halfback-option pass 90 yards for a touchdown to John Michael McCarty. Jonathan Evans also rushed 5 yards for score. Zach Fowler had 11 tackles, including a sack, and Miguel Cardona had six tackles for loss.

Despite the loss, coach Don Tusha said he feels the Cougars are improving in some areas. “We were a little overmatched, but we had a good time,” he said.

Wesley Hardin, a freshman, was 10-for-22 for 120 yards. His brother, Mike, caught four passes for 62 yards.

“We’re getting better and throwing more,” Tusha said, citing the 24 pass plays and 22 run plays the Cougars ran. “Size is tough to contend with at times.”

Osan (0-4) has next week off, then hosts Daegu (3-0) for the teams’ final matchup season on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. The Warriors visit Humphreys on Friday; kickoff is at 6 p.m.
