Forward Ike Nelson scored in the final seconds of the second overtime to lift Menwith Hill to a 55-53 victory over Geilenkirchen in the championship game of the 2005 USAFE Small Units Basketball tournament on Saturday.

After a timeout, Geilenkirchen rushed the ball down court but guard Terry Hankton’s three-point attempt hit the front of the rim.

The Jammers won their second close game in the five-day tournament at RAF Rairford, England. On Thursday, they won 59-58 in pool play.

Menwith Hill, which finished undefeated in the 10-team tournament, trailed 26-22 at halftime in the final, but rallied behind two three-pointers by Lionel Jennings to tie the game 43-43 at the end of regulation.

The teams each scored four points in the first overtime before Nelson hit his winner with 4.4 seconds left.

Nelson’s 17 points led a balanced attack for Menwith Hill, which got 10 from Calvin Dixon, nine from Jennings and eight each from Karim Cheetum and Courtney Cunningham.

Connell Wright, the tourney’s high scorer through three days of pool play, led Geilenkirchen with 22 points. Tim Teamer added 12 and Hankton 10.
