Eric Su and Chris Morris grabbed singles victories over Noah DeBonis and Nathan Fine, ensuring Nile C. Kinnick of the Department of Defense Dependents Schools-Japan Tennis Tournament boys team title in an event delayed nearly a day and a half by steady rain.

Kinnick’s boys edged Edgren 2-1, while Zama American blanked Kinnick 3-0. All matches were played from 3 p.m. Saturday until conclusion. Cristina Eustaquio won her singles match and teamed with Emma Barrett to take the doubles and lift Zama past Kinnick.

Only five schools, Kinnick, Zama, Edgren, Yokota and host Matthew C. Perry participated. E.J. King had to withdraw, coach Rick Kendall said, because their bus had a firm departure time of 3 p.m. Saturday and could not change it.

“It was a disappointment, for the team and me,” Kendall said.
