Two Pacific-based soldiers have been selected for a second straight year for the All-Army women’s basketball team, which is to compete in the All-Armed Forces championship starting Sunday at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station, Calif.

All-Armed Forces guard Evevetta Crawford of Torii Station on Okinawa and Laurie Aaron of Suwon Air Base, South Korea, were chosen following the All-Army tryout camp, which concluded Thursday at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa.

They’re joined by first-time All-Army selections Emily L. Crowder of Yongsan Garrison and Nicole Mevlin of Camp Carroll in South Korea.

The six-day All-Armed Forces tournament runs through March 24 at Miramar. All-Army is trying to end a two-year run of championships by the All-Air Force team. Army had won 12 straight titles from 1992 before Air Force ended the soldiers’ run in April 2004 at Everett Naval Station, Wash. Each team finished 5-1 in last year’s tournament in September at Ventura County Naval Base, Calif., but Air Force captured the title via better point differential in head-to-head matchups against Army.
