The past two USAFE hockey tournament champs will face off in another championship on April 4 when the the Kaiserslautern Military Community Eagles meet Heidelberg’s Baden Bruins for the Division I title of the local German Die Players Liga.

The game is scheduled for 9 p.m. at the SAP Arena, just off Autobahn 6 at its intersection with A656, the Mannheim-Heidelberg autobahn. The division includes 18 teams of American and German players.

KMC swept unbeaten through both the DPL regular season and the USAFE tournament to win its first USAFE title since 1992, according to Bruins’ team manager Ken Robinson.

The Bruins won the 2008 title.College coaches headed to Aviano

Head volleyball coaches from two stateside colleges will join the staff for this year’s Aviano volleyball camp, director Hans Hillestad said last week.

Colman Tallman, coach at Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio, and Jennifer McCall, coach at North Carolina-Wilmington, will join Hillestad, Susan Payne of Alconbury, Vicky Westland of Brussels and Brian Swenty of Vilseck in providing instruction at the camp, intended for girls who will be in grades nine through 12 for the 2009-2010 school year.

Fee for the residential camp, scheduled June 22-26 at Aviano High School in Italy, is $125.

Anyone interested in the camp should contact her high school coach, Hillestad said. Each school is guaranteed just three slots.

Softball umps’ clinics scheduledClinics for softball umpires are scheduled next month at the Morale, Welfare and Recreation training facility in Schwetzingen, Germany, and in Vicenza, Italy.

Schwetzingen’s clinic is scheduled for April 14-18; Vicenza’s from April 20-24.
