The DODEA-Europe Division I baseball race tightened further Saturday as the Stuttgart Panthers and Ramstein Royals split a doubleheader.

The visiting Panthers won the opener 9-4 behind a consistent offense that produced runs in five of the game’s six innings. Gabe Simpson earned the pitching victory and added an RBI for Stuttgart.

Ramstein roared back in the late game for a 14-1 victory, putting the game away with a four-run fourth inning and six in the sixth and final frame. Luke Brooks produced three hits and three RBI in support of winning pitcher Nemo Kindle.

Stuttgart earned its second split with a fellow Division I contender, along with its season-opening March 24 doubleheader with Wiesbaden. Ramstein opened its latest title defense with a split against SHAPE but recorded an impressive sweep of Wiesbaden just prior to spring break.

Kaiserslautern 9/13, Vilseck 6/3: Saturday at Vilseck, the visiting Raiders notched two key Division I wins.

The victories keep Kaiserslautern undefeated on its young season, which otherwise includes a March 24 sweep of Spangdahlem. The Raiders visit Wiesbaden on April 21, then host SHAPE and Lakenheath the following weekend.

Nolan Sherman powered the Raiders on Saturday with five combined RBI.
