BITBURG AIR BASE, Germany – Corey Bashon ran for 105 yards and four touchdowns in just three quarters of play Saturday to boost the two-time defending European Division II champion Bitburg Barons to 54-14 courtesy rule victory over the AFNORTH Lions.Bashon went over from 53, 11, two and one yard out in the game, which was finished in the third quarter by DODDS-Europe’s 39-point courtesy rules. All-Europe running back Kyle Edgar, who rushed the ball just five times but gained a game-high 147 yards, ran 88 and 25 yards for two more scores for Bitburg, which also broke Austin Schmidt for a 75-yard TD jaunt and Matt Flood for a 49-yard romp to pay dirt. Flood finished the game with a 25-yards-per carry average on his three rushes which covered 75 yards; Schmidt amassed 91 yards on just four tries.AFNORTH, which was coming off a 41-6 non-conference loss to Baumholder the previous week, cut its first-quarter deficit to 21-8 when All-European J.D. Pollock connected with Dante Brown for a 70-yard scoring pass play. Pollock then ran in the two-point conversion.It was the first of Pollock’s two TD passes on the day. He tossed a 35-yarder to Victor Black in the second quarter that made the score 27-14. From that point, however, Bitburg added 28 unanswered points to put away its 16th straight victory and first conference win of the season.Bryce Randall topped the tackling chart for Bitburg, with seven, one of them for a loss. Schmidt also had a tackle-for-loss among his six stops, and Derrick Bland made three stops behind the line of scrimmage in his total of six tackles. Zach Nichols also collected six tackles for Bitburg, which is scheduled to host SHAPE on Saturday.Brown finished with 163 yards of total offense for AFNORTH, which is scheduled to visit International School of Brussels on Friday night.
