RAF MENWITH HILL, England — Brett Gilbert threw six touchdown passes Saturday as the unbeaten Sigonella Jaguars wrapped up the Division III (nine-man) regular-season crown with a 56-20 victory over the Menwith Hill Mustangs.

James Campbell caught three of Gilbert’s scoring strikes. Two went to Tyron Anderson, and Jeff Lastrella hauled in one. Lastrella also ran for a TD in the romp.

Gilbert totaled 205 yards passing as the Jaguars (5-0) were assured of a home European semifinal game Oct. 31. Sigonella is idle this week and then scheduled to host the winner of this weekend’s Alconbury-Brussels game in the semifinals.

Chris Jackson rushed for touchdowns covering 24 and 35 yards and connected with Lawrence Alston for a touchdown pass, but the Mustangs, who led 14-13 after the first quarter, could muster little else against the Sigonella defense. Tyler Reed, who had two sacks among his 11 tackles, and Andrews, who had two interceptions, led the Sigonella defense.

Menwith Hill (3-1) is scheduled to host Rota on Saturday in a game that will determine which team plays at home against the other in the European semis. That game will be the third this season between the teams. Menwith Hill downed Rota 40-13 in Rota on Sept. 19.

In another D-III game:

Rota 35, Alconbury 26: On Friday night at Rota, Caleb Arnold and Gannon Soares each ran for two TDs as the Admirals rebounded from a loss at Sigonella.

Arnold totaled 111 yards rushing and Soares 101, but both were eclipsed by Alconbury’s Devin Pryor, who sped through the wide-open spaces of the nine-man game 29 times for 332 yards and a score. He also returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a TD.

Jeff Black rushed for the other TDs for Alconbury (0-4 overall, 0-3 D-III).

Marcos Wolfe made nine solo tackles and blocked a field-goal attempt, Terrance Paris and Arnold each had seven unassisted stops, and James Stovall had four solo tackles and seven assists for the defense, which had a second-half shutout for Rota (2-2, 2-1). Stovall also caught four passes for 88 yards. Alex Kase completed five of eight passes for 136 yards and ran for a 13-yard score.

Rota travels to Menwith Hill on Saturday, the same day Alconbury is scheduled to host winless Brussels.

The Brigands (0-3) were idle this weekend.
