WIESBADEN, Germany — Friday is the deadline for reporting results for Lift-Off 2006 — the second annual unofficial worldwide high school bench-press competition organized by Dave Eidem of Wiesbaden.

Coaches have until Friday to weigh their lifters and forward their results in the bench press to Eidem, who started the competition last year in an effort to encourage more weight training among high school athletes.

“All coaches want a bigger, stronger and more confident athlete,” Eidem said in a news release Monday. “If our athletes are to compete against stateside athletes, they must lift more.”

Winners will be announced in three weight categories. Students interested in participating should talk to their coaches or physical education teachers, Eidem said.
