FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. — For the second straight year and the 26th time in the All-Armed Forces women’s basketball tournament’s 30-year history, the All-Army team was tops.

Evevetta Crawford of Fort Buckner, Okinawa, led the way, averaging 20.2 points to lead all scorers in the tournament as Army went 6-0 to defend its 2006 championship. Air Force was second (3-3), followed by the Marine Corps (2-4) and Navy (1-5).

Army clinched the title on Friday, shooting 58 percent from the field to rout the Marines 80-59, with Crawford scoring 23 points. On Saturday, she netted 27 points as Army survived its closest scare of the tournament, edging Air Force 72-70.

Crawford was the lone Pacific Rim representative on the five-player All-Tournament team and will join 11 other players on the All-Armed Forces team scheduled to play in a pro-am tournament March 28-31 at Las Vegas.

Darrell Carpenter of Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, was named the All-Armed Forces team’s assistant coach.
