Strong in the middle and defensively, but replacing the firepower of midfielder Chris Monroy (30 goals, 9 assists) and strikers Eric Isley (12 goals, 7 assists) and James Reyes (9 goals, 6 assists) won’t be easy.

Kadena PanthersKadena Air Base2006 record: 17-1-1, defending Class AA champion.Coach: Tom McKinney, first season.Key returnees: Alex Mierzejewski, Sr., sweeper; Dean Harkum, Sr., midfield.Key newcomer:s: Terrence Jenkins, Sr., midfield; Terrone Sheffey, So., defense; Jamil Barney, So., defense; Stanley Schrock, Fr., midfield.Outlook: Rebuilding/reloading. Main strength is defense; Mierzejewski, Harkum, Barney and Sheffey will be quite a load to deal with, but replacing the departed scoring and playmaking of Nathan LaGrave, Aaron and Ben Zendejas, Kingsley McLeod and Anthony Soroka (combined 60 goals, 39 assists) and goalkeeping of Ted Awana will be their biggest challenge.

Seoul American FalconsYongsan Garrison2006 record: 12-10-2, sixth in Class AA.Coach: Swink Patterson, first season.Key returnees: David Crothers, Sr., defense; James Nutter, Sr., midfield; Chris Churchwell, Jr., midfield (14 goals); Shawn Grandy, Jr., defense; Eric Chin, Jr., midfield; Daniel Burns, Jr., midfield; Jonathan Yi, Jr., goalkeeper; Daniel Kim, Jr., midfield (8 goals).Outlook: Rebuilding. Plenty of experience among returning players, must replace the scoring of Allen Chin (12 goals) and Jessie Suh (9 goals, 6 assists).

Panthers have gradually climbed the Class AA ladder and could make a run at the DODDS-Japan title and another Class AA Final Four berth. Thomas will be a huge addition to that effort.

Ravelo's the real deal. Plenty of experience, knowledge of the game, fitness and good attitude among veterans, enthusiasm, speed, willingness to learn and great attitude among core of group of nine newcomers, six of them freshmen. Could challenge for DODDS-Japan honors, and might remain in contention for years to come.

Robert D. Edgren EaglesMisawa Air Base2006 record: 9-7-5, second in Class A.Coach: Larry Allen, second season.Key returnees: Alyssa Rodriguez, So., midfield (12 goals, reigning Class A MVP); Mia Angelella, So., midfield-forward (7 goals); Brandi Pendleton, Jr., defense; Jennifer Stryd, Jr., defense; Audrey Haltli, Jr., defense; Lissi Johnson, Jr., goalkeeper; Stephanie Wehring, Jr., midfield.Outlook: Reloading/contending. Eight starters return from team that notched finest season in school history. Stepping up from Class A to Class AA will be a challenge; so will opponents' solving Eagles’ veteran defense. Rodriguez and Angelella could help Eagles exceed 2006 success.

Might be the strongest Dragons team since their 2003 Class AA title, balanced, experienced and talented from strikers to goalkeepers. It’s now or never, though; most of the backline graduates, while Monti and Koeneke will transfer.

Kadena PanthersKadena Air Base2006 record: 22-0-0, three-time defending Class AA champion.Coach: Hoa Nguyen, ninth season.Key returnees: Jen Abel, Sr., midfield-forward-defense (Pacific season record 70 goals, 31 assists); Kelsey Decker, Sr., center-midfield (10 goals); Nisha McChesney, So., fullback; Danielle Mefford, So., fullback; Helen Schrock, Jr., goalkeeper-midfield.Key newcomer:s: Taylor Russell, Fr., midfield; Ashley Zapp, Fr., midfield; Chelsea Cummings, Fr., sweeper.Outlook: Rebuilding/reloading. Nguyen says that annually, but this season he means it — Panthers must break in seven new starters and replace the irreplaceable, Abel’s sister Dianne (61 goals, 47 assists) as well as replace six other players who combined for 50 goals and 63 assists.
