HANAU, Germany — Freshman Kyri Bye-Nagle hit a shot with time running out to give Hanau a 30-27 victory over Bitburg on Friday night, ending the defending Division II champion’s 19-game winning streak.

“We had been up by one, but that shot put us up by three,” said Hanau coach Mike Hunt. “It was big.”

Hanau (4-0) prevailed in another tight game on Saturday, 35-32.

This time, the Lady Panthers were behind 23-21 going into the final quarter, and veteran Courtney Smith led the way down the stretch.

“Courtney scored six points in the fourth period,” Hunt said. “Right at the end she hit two 10-footers to put us up by five, and we held on.”

Bitburg fell to 2-2.

Menwith Hill sweeps Alconbury

RAF ALCONBURY, England — Nicole Romero scored 51 points as Menwith Hill edged Alconbury 54-50 on Friday and 50-46 on Saturday to go to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the Division III-North race.

“Romero is a great shooter,” said Alconbury’s Paul Hagen. “She has excellent touch.”

Hagen said Menwith Hill won both games with solid foul shooting in the late going. No one however, was more clutch than Romero, who was 8-for-8 from the line in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game.

SHAPE rattles Mannheim

MANNHEIM, Germany — Charity Stowers and Sorayah Lakhal provided all the scoring punch SHAPE needed to sweep Mannheim and set up a showdown this weekend against Hanau.

Stowers scored 42 points and Lakhal 37 over two games as SHAPE went to 4-0 with 42-32 and 52-44 victories. The Lady Spartans will host 4-0 Hanau on Friday and Saturday.

Lakenheath sweeps Würzburg

RAF LAKENHEATH, England — Freshman post sensation Trinity Bursey totaled 38 points, 21 rebounds, 12 blocked shots and 10 steals as the Lady Lancers bounced visiting Würzburg 43-31 and 53-32 Friday and Saturday to improve to 5-1 on the season.

The victories kept Lakenheath in the race with unbeaten Kaiserslautern, 4-0, which was idle this weekend but will host Lakenheath Friday and Saturday.

Ansbach stays unbeaten

ANSBACH, Germany — Ansbach Lady Cougars, behind 39 points by Nadia Freeman, withstood a 43-point weekend by Tori McDuffie of Hohenfels to improve to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the III-South race.

Freeman had 22 points in Friday’s 57-52 triumph at Hohenfels and 17 in Saturday’s 59-45 victory here.

Hohenfels fell to 5-3, 2-2.

Aviano rolls to 8-0 mark

VICENZA, Italy — Aviano handed Vicenza its first defeats of the season, 33-24 on Friday and 27-22 on Saturday, to remain unbeaten and on top of the standings in Italy.

Tameieka Price scored nine points in each outing for Aviano.
