Defending European Division I champion Ramstein got most of its scoring from two players Saturday in a 7-0, courtesy-rule rout of Mannheim at Mannheim.

Senior striker Glenn Verley, returning to the form that landed him on the All-Europe team his sophomore year, and senior midfielder Jon McClouth each scored three times in the Region II fray, the season-opener for both teams.

Senior midfielder Dillon Wadsack, who’ll miss the Royals’ home opener this Saturday against Baumholder and an April 8 game against archrival Heidelberg because he’s a member of the U.S. team playing in the Albert Schweitzer basketball tournament, added a goal and an assist to Ramstein’s cause.

In other boys games of note Saturday:

Milan 2, Sigonella 2: No one likes a tie, but Sigonella’s D-III Jaguars have to be encouraged by this one, on the road against a D-II power.

Benjamin Jacks and Tyler Reed scored first-half goals for Sigonella, which was coming off a 7-2 road rout at the hands of the American Overseas School of Rome. Saturday’s tie left the Jaguars 0-1-1 against two of the league’s toughest teams, both of Division II.

Milan is 1-0-1. The Panthers bounced visiting Naples 4-1 the previous week.

Alconbury 2, Brussels 1: At Alconbury, the defending small-schools champion rode two goals from Jeff Black to the Region I season-opening victory.

Greg Pettiway assisted on both Black strikes, which came in the 11th and 51st minutes. They were the only shots to get past Brussels keeper Ryan Bottesini, who turned aside 12 other attempts.

Alen Abazi scored in the 26th minute for Brussels.

SHAPE 3, Patch 2: At Stuttgart, All-European Kewin Nielsen scored twice in the first half, and his teammate Juan De La Torre banged home the game-winner in the 77th minute for the defending European D-II champions.

Brandon Lockridge and Andrew Lewis tallied first-half goals for Patch in the season-opener for both teams.

Hohenfels 4, Ansbach 1: At Hohenfels, Tim Salerno scored twice, and Devon Fluker posted a goal and an assist as the Tigers claimed the season-opener for both Region III, Division II teams.

Bamberg 1, Heidelberg 1: At Bamberg, Bamberg’s Pathanasin Sandod and Heidelberg’s Vincent Harrington each scored early second-half goals in the season-opener for both teams.
