BITBURG, Germany - Kyle Edgar uncorked touchdown runs of 1, 25 and 12 yards, all in the first half, as defending European D-II champion Bitburg improved to 5-0 with a 54-12 triumph Saturday over Baumholder.

Austin Schmidt, who would end the game with two TD runs, Aaron Mayfield and Eric Matos also tallied in the first half as Bitburg jumped out to a 41-6 halftime edge. Isaiah Hyler also scored for Bitburg.

Edgar, who finished with 226 yards on 16 carries according to Bitburg coach Mike Laue, also shone on defense. Laue credited him with four tackles, two of them for losses, and two fumble recoveries.

Joining Edgar in double-digit-yards-per-carry numbers was Matos, who rushed five times for 52 yards. Like Edgar, Matos, too, was strong defensively, with five tackles, one for a loss, and a pass-knockdown.

Prince Owusu accounted for all the scoring for Baumholder (2-3), which likely faces a trip to Naples for this week’s playoffs. Owusu returned a Bitburg kickoff 88 yards for a first-half score and ran seven yards for a TD in the final stanza. For the day, Owusu accumulated 145 yards on three kick returns, rushed 10 times for 54 yards and caught two passes for 49 yards.

Owusu was also credited with five tackles and a blocked extra point on defense.
