To expand on “‘Jump Start’ cartoon tasteless” (letter, Dec. 14), not only was it abhorrent, but it wasn’t funny at all. I thought cartoons were suppose to be satirical, sarcastic and funny. For the last few months the following have not put a smile on my face yet: “Get Fuzzy”; “Candorville”; “Meaning of Lila”; “Knight Life”; “Baldo”; “Pearls Before Swine”; “Over the Edge” (all not funny).

I’m pretty sure there are better-quality cartoons you can [run instead] and get more smiles out of us. I’m hoping political correctness is not forcing you to print these not-funny cartoons to please a certain group of people. When something has no quality, it is what it is.

The four officers who were gunned down in Tacoma, Wash., were having their morning coffee at a coffee shop 10 minutes’ drive from my house. Last week, a former detention officer co-worker of mine and war veteran killed his wife and then took his own life, leaving behind a 1-year-old baby. Do I need to say more?
