Now let me get this right — it is perfectly fine for the secretary of defense and Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman to, in effect, speak to every member of the armed forces on their view of “don’t ask, don’t tell” when they announced their positions on the policy before Congress, yet it is “inappropriate” for Lt. Gen. Benjamin Mixon to speak to the troops under his command on the same subject because of his concern over its impact on unit readiness (“General rebuked for letter opposing repeal,” article, March 26)?

Hypocrites.
