In response to the Feb. 7 article "NAACP membership dwindles in Germany" (Europe edition), the Rhein-Neckar branch of the NAACP would like to point out that, in spite of the dwindling membership experienced by the branch and other private organizations in the command (caused by the drawdown, deployments and high operations tempo), the branch continues to play a productive role locally. The organization conducts many community programs, such as voter registration drives, scholarship awards, lecture series and an annual highly regarded German/American event to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Membership in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is open to everyone. All individuals who want to insure civil rights for all Americans are welcome! Readers are invited to step forward and become a member of America’s oldest civil rights organization.

Calvin Robinson, President, Rhein-Neckar chapterNAACP, Mannheim, Germany
